Despite their humble beginnings, two of the voices heard on Westwood One Sports today began their broadcasting careers at the same Green Bay high school station. Upon graduation, Kevin Harlan sought opportunities in front of the camera, and he does a stellar job with NFL play-by-play on TV.

My best performances aren't for the camera. As the signature voice for Westwood One Sports, I've promoted Kevin's Monday Night Football broadcasts quite often. My work in the studio, voicing promos, ads, and intros, often reminds me of my early adventures in broadcasting. I cut my teeth doing overnights at WKAU in Appleton, after high school.

While doing afternoon drive on WAPL I worked closely with program director Wayne Shayne, and we turned a 100,000-watt rocker into the most-listened-to station in Wisconsin's Fox Valley. Thus garnering the interest of stations in larger markets, I signed on for the Mid-day shift as Production Director at WQFM, Milwaukee, in the summer of '85.

Freelance work began soon after. Wisconsin's premier outdoor venue for A-list acts, Alpine Valley Music Theater, hired me as their signature voice.

Imaging for stations outside of my home market began in the '80s, with the blessing of of WQFM General Manager. When WRIF made the move to bring imaging in-house, I moved to Detroit as their Production Director in '92.

David Lee Imaging signed on for the first time in '95 when I left broadcasting to support my growing portfolio of broadcasters and commercial clients full time.  My work today includes a wide range of unique projects:

  • Advertising that Sells (mostly motorsports & automotive)
  • Station Imaging that Rocks (in the US, Germany, Costa Rica and Nigeria)
  • Signature Work for A-List Brands (General TIre, Monster Jam)

Today's digital technology makes it so easy for me to pop into the studio and bark out a track, I can accomodate a growing number of requests to be "that voice" on answering machines, announcing wedding parties like rock stars, and a host of other personal, fan-based projects.

After decades of working around the music industry, I now get to program my own streaming service, The Titletown Music Archive. Your feedback is always welcome.
